Otakon 2009
July 17-19, 2009
Baltimore Convention Center
Baltimore, MD
Back again for another year at Otakon in the Baltimore Inner Harbor. You know, for as much as I run around at Otakon each year, words escape me on what to say about it even though I always have a spectacularly awesome time. But here goes...
We arrived thursday afternoon after hauling the majority of luggage way up to the roof of my SUV. It was probably at least 90 degrees out and all of us girls were pretty short, but we had a lot of large costumes to bring this year. But since we tend to pack heavy, I invested in a rooftap luggage carrier this year and surprisingly, everything fit and we had room for passengers!
When we arrived, since we pass by the convention center, we saw that the pre-reg line was already huge! We checked in at our hotel and unloaded all our stuff and went swimming until the evening came around at which time we headed over to the Cheesecake Factory and had a delicious dinner. Then we got in line for our badges. I must say, even though each year we've gotten in line around 8:30pm to get out badges and we are usually done in 15-20 minutes, it definately wasn't a short wait this year. Even at that late hour, the line circled around the convention center, and we ended up being in line around 1.5 hrs. A big difference from previous years. But I'm sure that wait is still less than what it would be on friday mornings.
Proceeded to get out the steamer and put on Nina Wong from My Otome, not a new costume for this con but definately a comfortable one. We met up with friends, took in some of the panels, checked out the cosplays. Later in the day, by request, Yesod and I donned our Personas and ventured out for a photoshoot. Sorry to the Persona people at the other photoshoots, but after being the in Personas for a few hours we were exhausted and weren't up to putting them back on again.
Saturday, I put on Onion Knight, and we met up with even more friends, did some more pictures, had good food, checked out the Masquerade. Met up with more friends, did stuff, then crashed.
Sunday was spent packing up the car...again...and wandering the con seeing what else was going on. Spent more time with friends, went to closing ceremonies, learned the date of next year's Otakon. And luckily, this year, the traffic on the ride home wasn't bad at all.
