Sakura Sunday 2009
April 5, 2009
Fairmount Park
Philadelphia, PA
I finally got a chance to attend Sakura Sunday, the cherry blossom festival held in Philadelphia's Fairmount Park. More specifically, this year, it was to help out the Delaware Anime Society and Zenkaikon with their tent and to help with the cosplay exhibition.
It took us a while to figure out where we were going to set up the video game systems, the viewing area for the anime, the merchandise table, and how the signage was all going to be set up. Took a bit, but we managed to find a home for everything, as more and more people showed up for the festivities.
Besides manning the tent, there were other cosplayers to meet and speak to, taiko drumming, the cosplay pageant, martial arts demonstrations, and Otakage and Hitt performed, among other events and festivities. I learned a major thing to remember for next year. One, to get food early or else nothing good is left or it runs out. Huge lines for food and several vendors sold out of food. So, suffice it to say, I was quite hungry by the end of the day. But regardless, the weather was sunny and warm, and there was a ton of stuff to see and do, and was a lot of fun! :)
